Sharp 1300S help with prototype magnetic cards

Message par amenjet »

Hello,

I don't have a Sharp 1300S, and I don't think I'll ever find one, but I do have a casio PRO FX-1 which uses magnetic cards. A while ago I made some cards for it using a CNC machine and some magnetic credit card sized cards. The PC1300S cards aren't CR80 or any other common card size, so can't be made this way. I have just received some parts that should allow me to make cards for the 1300S, but I don't have dimensions of a real card. Does anyone have a 1300S and would be able to send me a drawing of the dimensions of the card? I'd need:

Thickness
Outline size of card
Where the magnetic strip is
Where the timing marks are (clear marks and dark marks)
How many timing marks there are.

I should be able to make a card of that size, with a magnetic strip that works on the 1300S, as I don't have a machine I'd also like someone to test the cards I make.,

I too have the plan of making magnetic cards for the 1300s.
I've found this page and maybe the picture with the penny is enough.

https://kakima.tripod.com/funprogs/pc1300s.html

For the thickness, I would go for 0,5mm to 1mm

Hello,

I've seen that picture and it may just be possible to get accurate enough dimensions. The Casio cards were 760 microns, or 0.76mm thick. So yes, between 0.5mm and 1mm. :-)

Do you have a 1300S?

Hi Andrew,

I have got a few magnetic cards with my PC-1300S, but I'm still trying to understand the right way to write and read back programs as I'm painstakingly trying to translate the Japanese instructions. I've done some tests, it's hit-or-miss but I've not identified the reasons so far. It's something that I've done more or less in the background but if you need to do some tests I'll bring this on the top of the stack.

I took some measurements with a digital caliper:

- Thickness: 0.70/0.71 mm
- Outline size of card: 15.45mm x 114mm
- Where the magnetic strip is: it is centered and ~7mm wide (there are two tracks on the strip: 1 & 2)
- How many timing marks there are: 89 dark marks per track

A few pictures (on one picture I added red tick marks to help counting the timing marks):

If you want I can send you one card for reference.

That is just what I was looking for. I think there's enough information there to have a go at some cards. I'll order some things and then have a go at cutting them. I'll PM you when i have a test card or two and organise getting them sent to you if that's OK?
I don't think I need a card sent to me at the moment. Maybe if there's problems later on.
Thank you

That’s OK for me, you may also send some to bernouilli92 to rule out issues I may have with the card reader of my PC-1300S.

Thanks zpalm for the dimensions. It's much better than trying to find them out of the picture.

@amenjet: I would be glad to test a card on my pc-1300.

I have a first prototype, it's not perfect, but is worth a try:

P1070148p1.JPG (61.98 Kio) Vu 3301 fois
I can improve a few things and speed up the CNC cutting, maybe. This took about an hour to make, 45mins of that was cutting. If you cut too fast you get broken cutters, and some distortion.

I finally managed to record and read cards with my pc-1300.
It took some time but now I can say that the home made cards work fine.
Zpalm sent me an original card (thanks !) and this helped me understand how it works; and the cards manufactured by amenjet work as reliably as the original cards.
That's good news.
Thanks amenjet for your work.

That's excellent news. zpalm is still having problems, though, so I've made some with black plastic instead of white as I think the white is quite transparent to light, but the black isn't. I'm hoping that will give better pulses through the slots as the light will cut off more and not come through the plastic.
